Congratulations to US Gypsum’s (“USG) Miguel Espinoza (pictured left) and Michael Longo (pictured right) for earning their Lean practitioner certification on January 17, 2023!

Miguel and Michael are project engineers at USG and attended Lean Jax’s 2022 Fall Lean practitioner certification training series.

The duo achieved their certification by:

  • Actively participating in all training and coaching sessions.Completing assignments directly applying the Lean fundamentals to their work. This included going to the Gemba to observe an operation and identify examples of the 8 wastes; applying 6S workplace organization, visual management, standard work, and mistake proofing to their physical and electronic work areas.

  • Additionally, the Lean practitioners collaborated on a Lean improvement project, using the value stream mapping and A3 problem solving methods to analyze and address a critical business issue.

  • Scoring over 95% on the Lean Jax’s Lean practitioner certification examination.

  • Sharing their Lean knowledge received with others in their organization.

  • Presented a report-out on their certification project:

On January 17, 2023, Miguel and Michael presented their A3 projects to an audience that Included USG’s Jacksonville plant manager and additional leaders. The duo used Lean methods (including 6S workplace organization, visual management, and standard work) to improve the safety, cost, speed, quality, and delivery of one of the plant’s key production lines.

Miguel and Michael are now tasked with extending their phase 1 improvements to additional aspects of the production board line. Great job, guys!
