The Arc Nassau’s Lean Implementation at the Florida Welcome Center

Jerry Bussell and I are working with The Arc Nassau’s Alan Ainsworth and Bob Koepf in bringing Lean improvements to the Florida Welcome Center’s rest area and outside grounds. We visited the “Gemba” on October 6, 2022 and were treated to some delicious Florida orange and grapefruit juice!

The Arc is a member of Lean Jax, and two of its’ leaders, Alan and Bob are participating in our Lean practitioner certification series. They’ve decided to implement a Lean pilot at the site for their certification project.

The Arc Nassau is a Yulee, FL based nonprofit agency that provides programs and services for adults with developmental disabilities.

The Arc maintains the Florida Welcome Center’s rest area and grounds as part of their contract with the Florida Department of Transportation. Several of their workers also participate in their core programs; helping these participants maintain gainful and fulfilling employment.

Alan and Bob are using the A3 problem solving format to define a key problem, capture the current reality, analyze the root causes, and develop/prioritize countermeasures that will make up their improvement plan.

The duo will discuss their problem solving process and report out results to the Arc’s leadership team in early November.
