Eliminate the 8 Wastes With Lean Thinking is designed to empower your team with the knowledge and skills to identify and eradicate waste in any value stream. This workshop is a deep dive into lean principles, focusing specifically on waste elimination as a driver for efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Workshop Objectives

Participants will learn to:

  • Understand the different categories of work from a customer’s perspective.

  • Identify the 8 wastes in value streams through observation and inquiry.

  • Investigate root causes of waste.

  • Apply lean strategies to eliminate waste, prevent recurrence, and achieve impactful results.

Workshop Outline

  1. Lean Principle #1: Understanding how the customer defines value.

  2. Value-Added Work vs. Non-Value-Added Work: Distinguishing between necessary work and waste.

  3. Toast Kaizen Video and Discussion: Learning from real-world applications of lean thinking.

  4. 8 Wastes Overview: Definitions, root causes, and examples.

  5. 8 Wastes Identification Exercise: Hands-on practice in spotting waste.

  6. Lean Principle #2: Identifying and mapping the value stream.

  7. Waste Identification Techniques: Using gemba walks, spaghetti diagrams, and fishbone diagrams.

  8. Benefits of Waste Elimination: Case studies on the real-world impact of lean practices.

  9. Initial Waste Elimination Methods: Introduction to ECRS, mistake-proofing, setup reduction, standard work, and 6S workplace organization.

  10. Next Steps: Guiding participants on how to continue their lean journey.
